AUTHOR’S QUALITIES ESSENTIAL FOR A GOOD SCIENTIFIC PUBLICATION

Abstract

Medical publications are an important means to gainrecognition as experts in a particular field at national andinternational levels. Publications will leads to benefitssuch as invitations to lecture at scientific meetings andrefresher courses, appointments as consultants toexternal agencies, expert panels and advisory boards,and to reviewer and editorial boards of journals.1 Iwould like to mention the qualities of a good author foran article to get published in an indexed medical journal(Table-1).Table-1: Author’s qualities essential for a goodscientific publicationGenuine interest to publish an articlePositive attitudeSufficient time managementAccept criticisms from the reviewersGood and peaceful mind setStress less working placePatienceConfidenceAuthors should have genuine interest topublish an article. If he is not interested and compelledby higher authorities (Head of the Department) topublish an article, he will come up with article withplagiarism. He should take positive attitude so that hisarticle will get published. He should have sufficient timeto write the article, critically evaluating the content,revising the article and proof reading the article. Heshould accept criticisms from the reviewers. He shouldhave good and peaceful mind set and stress less workingplace is an essential requisite for a good author. Heshould have good patience to write the article, criticallyevaluating the content, waiting for the review period,revising the article and proof reading the article. Heshould have self confidence that his article will getpublished. It is important for authors to be aware ofthese qualities before submitting an article.
